Troubleshooting
Start with the symptom you can observe. Apply one change at a time, then retry the smallest Quick Start example.
| Symptom | Check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
Compiling stops with BOSCH BMV080 SDK Must be installed. and bmv080.h not found | Did you copy the Bosch SDK files into the library? | Download the Bosch BMV080 SDK and copy the two header files and your platform's two .a files to the paths in the table in the Quick Start. |
The Serial Monitor prints BMV080 not detected and nothing else | Is the Qwiic cable fully seated at both ends? On the header, are SDA and SCL on your controller's I2C pins, and is the board powered from 3.3 V? | Reseat or swap the cable and check the wiring against the Quick Start. |
BMV080 not detected after changing jumpers JP2 or JP3 | Does BMV080_ADDR in the sketch match the address the jumpers set (0x54 to 0x57)? Did the board power up again after the change? | Set BMV080_ADDR to the new address and power the board off and on. The sensor reads its address pins only at power-up. |
| The Serial Monitor stays empty | Is it set to 115200 baud? Every example waits in setup() until the serial port is open. | Set the Serial Monitor to 115200 baud and open it after uploading. |
Readings end with Obstructed | Is something fixed in front of the sensor, such as a lid, a wall or a cable? A white surface facing the sensor counts as an obstruction while it is inside the sensitive region, which for white reaches 350 mm or more from the host surface (the surface the sensor is fitted in). Less reflective objects count only when they are closer. | Clear the space in front of the sensor. While it reports an obstruction, the sensor does not calculate PM2.5. |
| Readings look noisy or unsteady | Is the sensor close to a sharp edge? Has it run for less than a day? | Keep it at least 17 mm away from sharp edges, which make the airflow turbulent. A new sensor can show spurious detections during its first 24 hours, which typically settle over time. |
| The I2C sketch stops finding the sensor after changing JP1 | Is JP1 bridged to GND? That selects SPI, and the library talks I2C only. | Restore JP1 to its default bridge and power the board off and on. |
