Troubleshooting
Start with the symptom you can observe. Apply one change at a time, then retry the smallest Quick Start example.
| Symptom | Check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The LEDs stay dark, the buzzer is silent and no button press is ever seen | Is the board powered through a Qwiic connector? The 2-pin header carries only SDA and SCL, with no power. | Connect a Qwiic cable, push it fully into both connectors, and reset the controller. |
Every button reads as released (readButtons() returns 0, the full demo prints only off) | readButtons() returns 0 when the board does not answer, so a cable, power or address problem looks like no button pressed. | Check the Qwiic cable and the address, as in the rows above and below. |
| Nothing responds after you changed the address switch | With all switches OFF the board is at 0x30, which is what the library uses when you give it no address. | Pass the board's address to the constructor, for example ButtonLedBuzzerBoard_Soldered board(0x31); with only switch 1 ON (the address table is under Jumpers on the Hardware Details page), or set all switches back to OFF. |
| Two boards on one bus react to the same commands | Each board on the bus needs its own address. Up to eight boards fit, at 0x30 to 0x37. | Set a different switch combination on each board and give each object its own address. |
| The Serial Monitor shows nothing or unreadable characters | Buttons.ino and FullDemo.ino print at 115200 baud, and wait 2 s in setup() before the first line. | Set the Serial Monitor to 115200 baud and wait a few seconds after the upload. |
You wired SDA and SCL to other pins instead of Qwiic | The examples call Wire.begin() without any pins. | Pass your pins to Wire.begin(), as the comment in each example shows: Wire.begin(21, 22) on the ESP32 the examples were written for. |
